An update and thanks

Thanks so much for your thoughts and prayers. They must have worked. We have an update. The bone scan showed no other hot spots or fractures. The CT confirmed the same. The doctor said that "usually" if there is some sort of cancer eating at the bones there would be more spots in other areas of your body. Usually....I HATE that word. Anyhow, he did ask Eric to "come clean" if he has been injured in any way that he can remember. Hey doc, we have tried this angle already. I did keep a keen eye on Eric and saw no signs that he was trying to hide something or lie. I really think he is telling the truth. You can just sense this in your kids. And for the first time Eric heard the word cancer. I wish he did not have to go through this. He has enough to deal with just being a teenager. Anyhow, the doctor ordered blood work to check his thyroid, Ca, and phosphorus level along with vitamin D. He wants to make sure he does not have an underlying calcium absorption problem. If his throid is off we will see an endocrinologist. Secondly, he wants Eric to get a follow up xray next week to make sure that the usual signs of healing are going on. If not, he wants us to see a bone specialist or orthopedic doctor. No matter what the outcome of the xray I am thinking a second opinion with an orthopod is something I want to do no matter what. Eric did have some scoliosis in his spine that has been there since childhood and I want to know if we should address this. Still, with all the news, I am wondering just as the doctor is why these ribs, his anterior ribs at the shoulder, broke and not some other easier bone if he does have some sort of absorption problem. His step mom brought up the actual chiropractor visit as a possible way for him to have gotten the fractures. The doctor, who is a family practice doc, said normally this would take a lot more force to fracture. Normally....hmmmmm. Anyways, this is where we stand and I hope to have more to post next week. Thanks everyone again and if you have any wisdom or experience with this please don't hesitate to chide in.

So glad to see this update, Patty. I've been checking back and thinking about you all. I'm sorry I don't have any wisdom or experience in this area, but know that I'm thinking of you and Eric will remain in my thoughts and prayers!

So happy that his CT came back normal, although I'm sure you are still quite puzzled. I hope his follow up goes just as well and I will be thinking of you guys.
