Joshua has his first smiles
I absolutely love it when a baby first smiles at you. He did his first official smile at 3 weeks and now is a frequent smiler. He is so adorable I must say. We are still getting up at least twice a night, around 130 and 5 am but he is growing fast and furious. He is now approximately 22 inches long and weighs in a whopping 12 lbs! He is five weeks old today. I cannot believe he is already 5 weeks. Time is just flying by. We are getting more awake time too and he loves his gymini and his mobile. No real luck with the swing again. It seems to upset him more than entertain him. Tummy time is going good. He can lift and turn his head from side to side and will spend 5 to 10 minutes happy in this position. Now if I can just get him in his bassinet to sleep. He is still in bed with James and I. Any words of advice there? If I swaddle him he wants his hands so that one is out. He seems to startle himself awake a lot. I am at a loss as to how to solve it as yet.

Aren't those first smiles amazing! Can't wait to see pictures!
Patty,
Sleep in the same shirt for several nights in a row so it's good and dirty, I mean, smells like you, and lay it in the bassinet with him. He'll sleep like a, um, baby.
More pics please!?!
We need pics of the smile!! Those smiles melt my heart. WE did the Daniel sleeping on us thing for awhile. I just started putting him down to sleep and when he woke to feed he got to stay with me. As his stretches of sleep go longer he's down to sharing a warm body to about an hour or two a night. We swaddled leaving one arm out, he eventually would wriggle out completely, but it made him feel secure enough to fall asleep with. He sleeps in a cradle DH built so the sides are pretty close to him.
Thanks girls for all the great suggestions. I am definately going to try them. Stephanie, I will post a smile pic as soon as I can catch it on film. They are too few to capture right now unless I had a camera built into my forehead, lol.
Patty,
I am so thrilled that Joshua is doing so well. That is awesome that he is smiling!! I have no advice on sleeping & I'm sure I will be referring back to this post in a month or two to get some good advice! Take care & enjoy the smiles!! Luv ya, Cara A
